CTV Vancouver leads at RTDNA BC Region Awards for television

<p><img alt="" class="imagecache-large inline-image" src="http://j-source.ca/sites/www.j-source.ca/files/imagecache/large/images/RTDNA_3.JPG" title="" /></p><p>CTV Vancouver won six television awards at the RTDNA BC Region Awards. Vancouver’s News1130 led in the radio category with five wins. </p><p>At the RTDNA Central Awards, CTV Barrie, CTV Toronto and Global Toronto each picked up two television awards. In the radio awards, CBC Sudbury and Toronto’s 680 News and Newstalk1010 each received three awards.</p>

CJF accepting applications for new Aboriginal Journalism Fellowship

<p><em>The recipient of the CJF Aboriginal Journalism Fellowship will be hosted for one month by CBC News at its new Aboriginal Centre in Winnipeg.</em></p><p><strong>This new fellowship offers an early-career Aboriginal journalist the chance to explore an issue of interest to First Nations, Métis or Inuit peoples. </strong></p><p>The award aims to foster better comprehension of Aboriginal issues in Canada’s major media and community outlets.</p>

Yukon News wins big at Canadian Community Newspaper Awards

<p><em>The Yukon News</em> was the big winner at the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards.</p><p>The Whitehorse newspaper won six first-place awards in its circulation category, including best all-around newspaper, best editorial page, outstanding columnist, outstanding reporter initiative, best local editorial and best sports photo.</p><p>The outstanding campus newspaper award went to University of Alberta’s <em>The Gateway</em>. </p><p>Read the complete list of winners <a href="http://www.newspaperscanada.ca/sites/default/files/Winners%20List%20v2.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here</a>.</p>

Canadian farm journalists make a strong showing at NAAJ writing competition

<p>A <em>Manitoba Co-operator</em> writer has earned a top award for agricultural writing.<br /><br />Shannon VanRaes has won the feature category of this year’s North American Association of Agricultural Journalists’ writing competition. VanRaes, who ventured into the ag beat three years ago, says it’s an honour to be recognized by her peers.<br />

UPPERCASE named Magazine of the Year at Alberta Magazines Showcase Awards

<p><em>UPPERCASE</em> was named the magazine of the year at the Alberta Magazines Showcase Awards. Peter Bregg the first photojournalist to win CJF lifetime achievement award

Toronto Star journalist Marco Oved wins James Travers fellowship

<p><img align="left" alt="" class="imagecache-thumbnail inline-image" hspace="10" src="http://j-source.ca/sites/www.j-source.ca/files/imagecache/thumbnail/images/Marco Oved_0.JPG" title="" /> <em>Toronto Star</em> journalist Marco Oved was awarded the R. James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellowship.</p><p>Oved will receive $25,000 and use the funds to travel to Ghana, Burkina Faso and Peru to report on development projects funded by Canadian mining companies operating in those countries. His work will be published in the <em>Star</em> in the coming months.</p>
