Shortly after the announcement that Black Press would acquire 11
publications in B.C
., the employees of Nelson Daily News and the Prince Rupert Daily News were told that
the paper would be closing its doors as of September 3, 2010.

According to an internal memo, Don Kendall, former publisher with the Vernon Morning Star and now owner of Cranbrook Trownsman/Kimberly Bulletin, made the announcement to staff on behalf of the chain. He told them that NDN had been bleeding money for the past year, and that the Nelson Star, a weekly started by the Black chain a few years ago, was making in-roads into the community.

The Prince Rupert Daily news has been published every day since 1911.
