CJF Black Journalism Fellowship Final Report
My fellowship with CTV has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to accelerate my career in journalism. Throughout my six-month placement, I gained firsthand insight into the inner workings of Canada’s largest privately owned television network while sharpening my skills and contributing meaningfully as an emerging journalist.
CTV provided me with invaluable hands-on experience. I participated in daily assignment desk meetings, accompanied reporters from The National, CP24 and CTV Toronto on field assignments, wrote breaking news articles, contributed to live blogs and scripted segments that aired twice daily on The National. This immersive training has been unparalleled in my journalism journey and has equipped me with the skills and confidence to thrive in fast-paced newsroom environments.
I have also had the privilege of working alongside newsroom leaders who were deeply invested in my growth and encouraged me to take on greater responsibility. Most recently, I was invited to contribute to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic assignment desk, where I applied everything I have learned in a high-level, collaborative setting.
This experience has prepared me well for my next chapter with CTV as a multi-platform writer. I am thrilled to step into this role and deeply grateful to the Canadian Journalism Foundation and my funders for their support. Thank you for believing in the importance of training and elevating journalists with diverse voices.
