2023 CJF-CBC Indigenous Journalism Fellow

by Tchadas Leo

My time with the CBC Indigenous team was a meaningful learning experience for me as I continue along my Journalism career. I had a great opportunity to pitch an idea that was significant to me and spend some time investigating the topic in a careful and purposeful way.
Although I had previous experience coming into this fellowship, the time that was allotted to really dive deep into the subject matter at hand was great. Through my story, I was able to increase my awareness and hopefully the awareness of CBC’s viewers of both the ongoing struggles and the periodic wins that are happening when it comes to reconciliation in Canada. This fellowship gave me the time to speak with many Indigenous nations and leaders across the country to develop a true understanding of what the path of reconciliation looks like at present and in the future.
I want to thank the CBC Indigenous team for being supportive during my one-month fellowship in CBC Manitoba.
