Former CTV journalist Seamus O’Regan is seeking the federal Liberal nomination in the Newfoundland riding of St. John's South-Mount Pearl, The Canadian Press reported.

O'Regan, originally from St. John's, hosted Canada AM for nearly a decade and was also a national correspondent for CTV network. He left the network quietly in 2012 and told J-Source that he “just needed a change. All good.”

Prior to his career in journalism, O'Regan was a senior policy adviser to then-Newfoundland and Labrador premier Brian Tobin.

O’Regan is running against another former journalist, Ryan Cleary, who was the editor-in-chief of The Independent and a host on VOCM radio station in St. John’s.
