The Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at the University of Western Ontario invites applications for two full-time, Limited-Term appointments for  terms of up to two years at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The positions begin May 1, 2012. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of six half courses per academic year and carry out assigned duties related to committee and other service within the Faculty, but will not be expected to engage in research and scholarly publication.  

Minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree in Journalism or equivalent; evidence of excellence in teaching journalism and a strong record of professional experience in journalism.  For one position, a demonstrated record of teaching and professional experience in television journalism including newsroom and field experience is essential. Skills in shooting and editing are a major asset, as is international experience. For the second position, a strong record of teaching and professional experience in print journalism is necessary. For both positions, experience in online journalism is an asset.

The successful candidates will teach in the Master of Arts in Journalism at FIMS, instructing graduate students in classroom and studio environments in both the practice and the critical analysis of journalism, including online journalism. The successful candidates will also have the ability to teach in the Faculty’s undergraduate program in Media, Information and Technoculture (MIT).  

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies is a vibrant, expanding faculty comprising more than 45 full-time faculty members and 22 non-academic staff. It currently offers an undergraduate program in Media, Information and Technoculture with an enrolment approaching 1000 students, as well as an MA in Journalism, a Master’s and PhD program in Library and Information Science, an MA and PhD in Media Studies, a joint MA program in Popular Music and Culture, and joint Master and PhD programs in Health Information Science.
