Dana Robbins, editor of the Hamilton Spectator, has been appointed publisher of the Record of Waterloo Region and the Guelph Mercury newspapers. He replaces Fred Kuntz, who was recently named editor-in-chief of the Toronto Star. The Kitchener-born Robbins led the Spec through a series of dramatic changes to win and keep readers, including placing a growing emphasis on narrative story-telling, the elimination of business, entertainment and lifestyle sections, and the launch of a daily broadsheet magazine called Go. Robbins has been been quoted as saying he’d “rather be embarrassed occasionally by what I see in our newspaper than bored.”
