Who reported it first? My chair was still shaking when I read that The Globe and Mail had evacuated their Ottawa bureau:
Our Ottawa bureau evacuated its offices just before 1:45 p.m. ET due to the earthquake tremors.
Of course, that doesn’t mean they got it first. While we wait for updates, here’s a related comic about the power of instant news.
UPDATE:
“A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit central Canada this afternoon, rattling buildings from Windsor to Montreal and several U.S. states.
“The Toronto newsroom of The Globe and Mail shook just before 1:45 p.m. EDT. The Ottawa newsroom was evacuated at about 1:43 p.m.”
” It is not yet known whether there have been any reports of injuries.”
Twitter was alight with posts about the earthquake (#earthquake, #quakeTO, #earthquakeOttawa) that came from users as far away as Springfield, Massachusetts and Traverse City, Michigan, as well as in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.
