Kathleen Petty on her double mastectomy and taking time for herself

<p>It took Kathleen Petty <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/cbc-radios-kathleen-petty-delays-calgary-move-due-illness">some time to speak publicly</a> about the health issue that kept her in Ottawa and put an end to her plans to move back to Calgary last year. All her listeners knew was that she was slated to leave CBC Ottawa Morning to host the Calgary Eyeopener, but <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/ottawamorning/2011/08/11/a-note-from-kathleen/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">during her final show</a>, announced that medical reasons were going to keep her in Ottawa.</p>

Dan MacLellan resigns from CTV London amid legal issues

<p> </p><p>CTV London has announced that senior anchor Dan MacLellan has resigned in order to focus on upcoming legal challenges.</p><p>MacLellan faces assault charges from an alleged incident on Dec. 24 for which he was arrested. He has been on a leave of absence from CTV since Dec. 28 after appearing in court, as per company policy.</p><p>MacLellan, who is an Atlantic Journalism Award-winner, has been anchoring in London since 2002. Prior to that, he anchored in Edmonton and was a business reporter, videographer and weekend anchor for Global Television.</p>

Katie DeRosa named first James Travers Fellowship recipient

<p>Katie DeRosa, a reporter for <em>Victoria Times Colonist</em>, has been awarded the inaugural <a href="http://cusjc.ca/travers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellowship</a>.</p><p>When James Travers – who was universally known as Jim – passed away suddenly last March, there was an <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/tributes-jim-travers-former-ottawa-citizen-editor-and-toronto-star-columnist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outpouring of support</a> from the journalism community in Canada.</p>

CBC Radio host Dave Bronstetter to retire

<p>After three decades at CBC, it has been announced that Dave Bronstetter will host his last broadcast on Feb. 18, <a href="http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Radio+host+Dave+Bronstetter+goes/6067841/story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the <em>Montreal Gazette</em> reports</a>.</p><p>Bronstetter has been on a leave of absence from CBC Montreal’s <em>All in a Weekend</em> since the fall, and informed his bosses just this week that he would not be returning, according to the <em>Gazette</em>.</p>

Muhammad Lila leaves CBC, begins as ABC foreign correspondent

<p>Canadian journalist Muhammad Lila had been anchoring newscasts and reporting for CBC since 2008, and in that time has covered local, national and international stories. Now, he begins a new role as ABC’s foreign correspondent to Pakistan, Afghanistan and the region.</p><p>While Lila has reported from Haiti, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the Himalayas in the past, this is the first time he will be living overseas as a correspondent. Prior to joining CBC, he anchored and reported for CityTV and CP24 in Toronto.</p>

Glen Hancock, former head of Nova Scotia journalism school, has passed away

<p> </p><p>Glen Hancock, who was a key figure in developing journalism education in Nova Scotia, has passed away.</p><p>Hancock was able to balance working in both journalism and public relations, as he worked as an advisor for Imperial Oil while writing for magazines and newspapers. Prior to working with Imperial Oil, Hancock was an editorial and feature writer for the <em>London Free Press, </em>where his articles were widely syndicated<em>. </em></p>
