Matt O’Grady leaves post as Globe B.C. bureau chief

The Globe and Mail is currently interviewing candidates to fill the role of B.C. bureau chief. Matt O’Grady left his position at the helm of the bureau on Sept. 16, roughly a year and a half after he joined the newspaper.

O’Grady told J-Source he will freelance for now. He had previously worked as the executive editor of  Canadian Business magazine, editor-at-large of Report on Business magazine and editor-in-chief of BCBusiness. 

Recently, the newspaper brought in a string of measures to cut costs. Several journalists left the company through buyouts. The newspaper ceased delivery in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as parts of B.C., decided against publishing a Labour Day edition and outsourced some of its page design to Pagemasters North America. Its union blasted the newspaper management for what it called a "blame-shifting approach" onto employees for the Globe's financial troubles.
