Maritime mag opens restaurant

Halifax-based Saltscapes magazine is branching out into the
restaurant biz. The local mag first talked about extending the brand five years
ago, but loyal readers (who often compete for recipe space in the mag’s pages) won’t have long to wait now.

The new spot, dubbed Saltscapes Restaurant & General
Store, opens its doors at the Truro Power Centre in a matter of weeks. In a
press release, general manager Angela Steeves says the floors are almost
finished, and final touches are being put on the kitchen. The grand fireplace
in the middle of the dining room is complete.

The restaurant and store will be new, but won’t feel shiny,
adds co-publisher Jim Gourlay.”Patrons will be asked what they’d like to
see on the menu,” he says. “That’s in keeping with the general
Saltscapes business philosophy: ask people what they want, then give it to them
at a higher quality than they expect.”
