Ron Haggart,  a senior producer at The Fifth Estate after he was founding head of news at Citytv died Saturday in Toronto at 84, reports the Toronto Star. His broadcasting career followed years at Globe and Mail, Toronto Star and Toronto Telegram in the late ‘50s, ‘60s and early ‘70s.
“Ron was one of those legendary gruff, tell-em-as-it-is reporters and columnists who delighted in controversy and was never afraid to ruffle feathers,” said John Honderich, chair of Torstar's board of directors.
“His passion for journalism was complete. His striving for truth and justice were the hallmarks of his work. Whenever he gruffed, people listened.”
