The Online Education Database recently published 100 Indispensable Twitter Tips for Journalism Students. As it states, "there's no avoiding Twitter when it comes to modern journalism," and this list helps j-students use Twitter right. As well, each tip is linked to a related article for further reading.
The first tip on the list is to treat Twitter seriously.
“Twitter is a public forum and everything you tweet is out there for anyone to see. As a result, it's essential that you take it seriously, maintain a professional attitude, and never tweet anything that could potentially cost you your job or endanger your education.”
Following up on that, you should remember that journalism ethics apply on Twitter too, which is tip number three. “Because Twitter is a social media tool, many have a tendency to treat it differently than other forms of media. In reality, the same rules that apply for any other form of traditional media should apply on Twitter as well, so don't tweet things without verification or make assumptions.”
On the list you can find out more about: the basics, tweeting tips, Twitter tools, how to build your brand , how to grow as a journalist, how to network, how to get inspired, who to follow, as well as important reminders. So read the full list here, and tweet away!
