The Global Editors Network has announced the launch of the Data Journalism Awards in partnership with Google.
The awards will recognize and set standards for data journalism, which is largely still an emerging form. Media companies, non-profit organizations and individuals can apply. An international jury of editors and experts will give three awards in three areas: data-driven investigations, interactive data visualizations, and data-driven mobile or web applications/services.

The awards will recognize and set standards for data journalism, which is largely still an emerging form. Media companies, non-profit organizations and individuals can apply. An international jury of editors and experts will give three awards in three areas: data-driven investigations, interactive data visualizations, and data-driven mobile or web applications/services.
But what constitutes data journalism? According to a GEN press release announcing the awards, projects/stories are eligible if they combine at least three elements that include – but are not limited to – database service, data visualization, investigative journalism, or mobile usage. The inaugural Data Journalism Awards will take place on May 30 2012 as part of the News World Summit in Paris, France.
