Al Jazeera English formally applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission for approval to broadcast in Canada earlier this year, and now The Globe and Mail is reporting that approval is likely to come.
The Globe reports:
“Sources close to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission indicate that Al Jazeera English, the international spinoff of the Qatar-based Arabic language news network Al Jazeera, will likely be cleared for Canada this summer, possibly within weeks.”
Former CBC editor-in-chief Tony Burman is now managing director of Al Jazeera English based in Doha, Qatar. He has led the push to bring Al Jazeera English to Canada.
