According to Vernon’s online bio, he joined Global Edmonton in August 2013. Prior to that, he worked for seven years in radio, getting his start as a creative writer/producer for Big Country 93.1 FM in Grande Prairie, Alta. He moved to Regina as a reporter for Harvard Broadcasting in 2008. He joined Global Regina that September and in 2011 was named the host of Focus Saskatchewan, a weekly public affairs program that airs on Global Regina and Global Saskatoon. Vernon has also worked with Journalists for Human Rights in Sierra Leone as part of the Shaw Africa Project.
