Global Toronto is cutting its noon television newscasts, parent company CanWest Global Communications Corp. has announced.
Canwest spokesperson John Douglas would not confirm the number of layoffs, but did say it would be fewer than 40.
The company decided in Nov. to cut out the morning newscasts, but after a full review of Global Toronto’s operations, it decided to cut the noon news as well, Douglas said.
Late last year, Canwest slashed 560 jobs, or about 5 per cent of its Canadian employees, in a measure to combat tough economic conditions and weakening ad sales.
