Glacier Media is merging Dawson Creek Daily News, one of its B.C. publications, into the Alaska Highway News on Feb. 3.

Glacier Media is merging Dawson Creek Daily News, one of its B.C. publications, into the Alaska Highway News on Feb. 3.

According to Glacier's website, Alaska Highway News has a circulation of 4,100 and Dawson Creek Daily News, which has been publishing since 1930, has a circulation of 2,200.

“The relatively close geographical proximity of the communities and the increased need to provide our readers and advertisers with expanded coverage within the North made our decision an easy one,” said William Julian, regional manager for Dawson Creek Daily News and Alaska Highway News, in a note published on the latter’s website.

“We have taken a number of issues into careful consideration with this decision and we feel that this change is a logical step to providing not only our readers but also our advertisers with improved content, coverage and circulation.”

Julian said there would be no change in the delivery of The Mirror, a weekly newsmagazine, and the Northern Horizon, a biweekly agricultural community newspaper, which used to be printed by the Dawson Creek Daily News. His note did not specify if there would be any change to staffing at the two newspapers as a result of the merger.

Earlier this month, Glacier Media shut down Kamloops Daily News citing an inability to reduce costs.
