The World Association of Newspapers launched its annual conference by giving the Golden Pen of Freedom award to Chinese journalist Li Changqing, the Canadian Press reports. Li, who recently served two years in prison for reporting on an outbreak of dengue fever, was unable to travel to Goteborg, Sweden, to accept the award because he could not get a passport.
