Updated: Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale continuing with libel suit despite Mayor Rob Ford’s apology

<p>Toronto Mayor Rob Ford apologized to <em>Toronto Star</em> reporter Daniel Dale during a city council meeting today, saying he did not mean to suggest Dale was a pedophile. But the reporter says Ford’s statement didn’t come close to being a sufficient apology and retraction, and he intends to continue with a libel lawsuit. </p><p>In his statement, Ford blamed the insinuation on media who “ascribed” the word to his remarks.</p>

Queen’s Journal claims student government cut advertising after unflattering editorial

<p><strong>By Mary-Katherine Boss, Student Lounge Editor</strong></p><p>In early September, Queen's University’s student government, the Alma Mater Society (AMS), pulled its advertising from the campus’s student newspaper, <em>The Queen’s Journal. </em>While the AMS said the decision was purely financial, <em>Journal</em> editors see it as a result of its unflattering coverage of the society.</p>

When <em>Halifax Media Co-op</em> journalist Miles Howe was arrested Nov. 26 for the third time by New Brunswick RCMP, many questioned if he was indeed a journalist. Howe was reporting about SWN Resources’ exploration for natural gas near the small community of Rexton and the Elsipogtog First Nation, which claims the land.</p>

Ed Greenspon leaves Star Media Group

<p>Ed Greenspon, vice-president of business development at the <em>Toronto Star,</em> is leaving the newspaper.</p><p>Greenspon joined Star Media Group after leaving his post as editor-in-chief of <em>The Globe and Mail</em> in 2009. At Star Media Group, Greenspon headed up Star Content Studios, the marketing and custom content department at the <em>Star, </em>and the short-lived experiment with <em>yourmississauagabiz</em> and <em>yourhamiltonbiz</em>.</p>
