Conseil de presse: The Gazette s’aligne sur Quebecor

<p>Après Quebecor, voilà que <em>The Gazette</em> menace de se retirer du Conseil de presse du Québec (CPQ). Le quotidien anglophone proteste contre le désir du Conseil d'obliger les entreprises de presse à se soumettre au tribunal d'honneur de la profession et contre son appui à la création d'un titre de journaliste professionnel, révèle <em><a href="http://www.ledevoir.com/societe/medias/339120/l-editeur-du-quotidien-the-gazette-tire-a-boulets-rouges-sur-le-conseil-de-presse">Le Devoir</a></em>.</p>

Jack Layton named Newsmaker of the Year

<p>Jack Layton: There was no other Canadian who dominated headlines the way he did in 2011.</p><p>Layton led his party to Official Opposition status in the spring, decimating the Bloc Quebecois in Quebec and leaving the Liberal Party holding a mere 34 seats in the House of Commons. His death this summer resulted in an outpouring of support from across the country, and Canada said goodbye to Jack at a rare state funeral.</p>

Infographic: Worldwide violence against journalists in 2011

<p>Reporters Without Borders has released its list of the <a href="http://en.rsf.org/the-10-most-dangerous-places-for-21-12-2011,41582.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">10 most dangerous places in the world for journalists </a>in 2011. It is unsurprisingly similar to that <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/political-unrest-proves-deadly-journalists-cpj-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published recently</a> by the Committee to Protect Journalists. Both reports indicate an increase in violence against journalists over the last year, partly due to the Arab Spring.</p>

Refugee claim denied for Iranian journo who wrote of a Canadian photographer’s death in Iran: The National Post

<p>Behzad Khalilzadeh wrote of the circumstances leading to the ultimate fate of a Canadian journalist, who he reports was raped and murdered in Iran in July 2003, but the story was never published. Instead, police threatened to kill him if he did not reveal his source, the <em><a href="http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/12/21/canada-denies-iranian-journalists-refugee-claim/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Post</a> </em>reports. </p><p>The <em>Post</em> writes:</p>
