Writing e-book more lucrative than magazine writing for journalist Paula Todd

<p>Publishing a scoop-filled story about finding Karla Homolka has earned the author 10 times more than a magazine-writing fee, according to an <a href="http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/books/2012/08/11/homolka_ebook_a_publishing_breakthrough.html">article in the Star.</a></p><p>The Star reports Paula Todd's ebook has sold as many as 70,000 copies, generating as much as $200,000 in gross sales revenue.</p>

Canadian-born humour writer David Rakoff dies at 47

<p>Montreal-born writer David Rakoff died after a long illness yesterday at the age of 47 in Manhattan. Rakoff was an award-winning humorist whose work appeared in <em>The New York Times</em> and <em>Newsweek</em> among other publications and was a contributor to Public Radio International’s<em> This American Life</em>. He is known for his non-fictional and sometimes autobiographical essays that are remembered for being cynical, neurotic and hilarious, while touching on everyday life and culture. </p>

Journalists sans j-school

<p>"<a href="http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2012/08/20120802-124614.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">You're conscripted!</a>" read a Sun News Network post that was soliciting applicants for a number of job vacancies at the network.</p><p>In Sun News Network fashion, the posting blasted both the CBC and the Lamestream Media Party, but also picked a relatively new foe: journalism schools.</p>
