Two journalists, a Canadian woman and an Australian man, have
reportedly been abducted in Somalia, the CBC says in a dispatch from
Reuters. They are believed to have been confronted by gunmen while
visiting camps for displaced civilians near Elasha.

UPDATE:
The Canadian Press has reported that the Canadian freelance journalist Amanda Lindhout and the two others kidnapped in Somalia were not harmed.

According to the CP report, a Reporters Without Borders spokesperson said:

“What
we have been able to glean is that the journalists – the Canadian, the
Australian and the Somali – are unharmed, they have their clothes,
they’re getting food regularly and they may even have access to
satellite TV.”

According to a Globe and Mail report, Lindhout was working for
French television while in Somalia, and had pitched her
freelance work to Canadian networks, including Global National. She has also written a weekly column for the Red Deer Advocate from Iraq.
