CAJ opposes court ruling

The Canadian Association of Journalists is condemning an Alberta judge’s ruling Tuesday that three reporters must testify at a murder trial. The reporters, two from the Edmonton Journal and one from the Edmonton Sun,had interviewed Thomas Svekla, who is charged with murdering two women. The interviews took place before Svekla was charged, and the Crown argued the testimony was needed to point out inconsistencies inSvekla’sstatementsto police.
