University of King’s College hiring an assistant professor for multimedia journalism

<p> </p><p>The University of King’s College in Halifax, NS is seeking an assistant professor of journalism in multimedia for a three-year limited term position. The successful candidate will teach digital production skills and reporting skills to both undergraduate and graduate students. According to the <a href="http://www.ukings.ca/assistant-professor-journalism-multimedia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">job posting</a>, applicants must have a graduate degree and will ideally have extensive experience as a reporter and a mentor in the field or in the classroom.</p>

Radio-Canada’s Enquête gets CJFE’s Tara Singh Hayer Award

<p><a href="http://www.cjfe.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian Journalists for Free Expression</a> (CJFE) will present its 2012 Tara Singh Hayer Memorial Award to <a href="http://www.radio-canada.ca/emissions/enquete/2012-2013/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Enquête</em></a>, Radio-Canada’s investigative television program, for taking great risks to expose major cases of corruption in Québec. The award will be presented at the 15th Annual CJFE Gala, to be held December 5, 2012, at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto.</p>

Kathleen Petty returns to CBC airwaves as interim host of Ontario Today

<p> </p><p>Kathleen Petty has returned to CBC to serve as interim host of provincial radio show <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/ontariotoday/">Ontario Today</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Kathleen+Petty+returns+Radio+Monday/7399986/story.html">Petty told <em>The Ottawa Citizen</em></a> that she was looking forward to getting back on the air, saying she was “on the comeback trail.”</p>

The move began in April and some of the newsrooms and studios are still awaiting finishing touches. Susan Riley pens final regular column for The Ottawa Citizen

<p>In her final regular political column for <em>The Ottawa Citizen</em>, Susan Riley tries to define her political worldview. In a testament to how complicated such worldviews really are – how many journalists see themselves as any sort of capital-letter partisan? – Riley’s classification spans at least six paragraphs and culminates in no clear consensus.</p><p>"<span style="font-family: arial, verdana, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 11.111111640930176px; ">I am not a partisan — and no journalist worth reading will be," she writes.</span></p>

Mikhail Gorbachev’s day guest editing the Winnipeg Free Press

<p>For the first time in the newspaper’s history, The Winnipeg Free Press welcomed a guest editor to its pages. Mikhail Gorbachev, former Soviet leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was at the helm of Free Press for Tuesday’s print edition.</p><p>Gorbachev was in Winnipeg to give the keynote speech at <a href="http://www.weday.com/we-day-events/we-day-cities/manitoba/">We Day Manitoba</a>, an event for which The Free Press was a major sponsor. According to its website, We Day Manitoba was attended by 18,000 youths.  </p>
