Haley Cullingham named Maisonneuve’s new editor-in-chief

<p>Drew Nelles is leaving <em>Maisonneuve</em> after three years at the helm of the award-winning magazine. Associate editor Haley Cullingham has been named the new editor-in-chief.</p><p>Although he doesn't have a job lined up, Nelles, 27, is moving to New York City. His last day is Sept. 4.</p>

Le Word Press Photo 2013 fait étape à Montréal

Alain Saulnier: «La société aura toujours besoin de bons journalistes»

<p><strong>L’ex-directeur de l’information de Radio-Canada, Alain Saulnier, a inauguré ce matin le trimestre d’automne du DESS en journalisme de l’Université de Montréal, sur le campus de Laval. Devant une quarantaine d’étudiants, à très grande majorité féminine, il a parlé information et désinformation à l’heure des grands bouleversements que connait le métier, et remis entre les main de ces futurs journalistes le destin de la profession.</strong></p>

Carl Bernstein to speak at international investigative journalism conference in Winnipeg

<p>The University of Winnipeg and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation are joining forces to organize an event in Winnipeg next June called: “Holding Power to Account: International Conference on Investigative Journalism, Democracy, and Human Rights.”</p><p>The CBC has a long tradition of creating important investigative journalism in Canada, and the University of Winnipeg has a special interest in fostering global citizenship and engagement in human rights. The conference will explore links between investigative journalism, democracy and international human rights.</p>

Former Toronto Sun editor-in-chief James Wallace joins Postmedia

<p>James Wallace, former editor-in-chief of the <em>Toronto Sun,</em> will join Postmedia Network on Sept. 9 as its editor of Editorial Services in Hamilton, Ont.</p><p>Wallace’s <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/two-sun-editors-leave-their-newspapers-amidst-massive-sun-media-cuts">resignation in July</a> from the <em>Sun</em> followed a series of drastic cuts and the layoff of more than 1,000 employees at Sun Media.</p>

Yukon News sold to Black Press

<p><strong>By Tamara Baluja</strong></p><p><a href="http://blackpress.ca/index.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Black Press</a>, a B.C. media company that owns more than 150 community newspapers in that province as well as in Alberta and the U.S., has bought its first newspaper in the Yukon Territory with the acquisition of the independent <em>Yukon News</em>.</p>
