Charlie Smith, editor of Vancouver-based alt-weekly Georgia Straight, has compiled a selection of books about the Olympics that “covers the sports, business, politics, and history of the Games.”
One of the books, by Hamilton Spectator columnist Steve Milton, is a history of figure skating. Another is a critique of the Games that Smith says “exposes the secrecy, elitism, hypocrisy, corruption, and lack of accountability of what [the author] calls the ‘Olympic industry.’” He describes his next choice as “business journalism at its best” and highlights the last for “sports junkies and journalists from around the world.”
