Before Rosie O’Donnell started mocking Donald Trump, Brian Montopoli posted about Trump’s late December filler story on his CBS News blog, Public Eye. Montopoli says, “[T]here are plenty of reasons to be weary of Donald Trump … but the man is not without talents. Just look how he’s played the press corps for free publicity for his Miss USA pageant.” At the end of December, not much real news happens (the hanging of a tyrant and the deaths of an ex-president and a giant of soul music notwithstanding), so when reports of the current Miss USA’s partying hit the news, Trump “saw not a problem but an opportunity.”
