The House of Commons will now allow MPs to use social media apps like Twitter and Facebook on government-issued BlackBerrys, The Canadian Press reports. (Previously, active social media users like Industry Minister Tony Clement had to use web-based version).

CP notes that “As talk of a spring election ramps up, would-be MPs are also already active online. Dozens of new accounts are popping up as candidates get chosen across the country and campaign seminars are being held on how to use the various social media sites.” Editor’s Weblog wonders, “Will the tools reveal themselves as an important power for the campaign?”
