San Francisco Chronicle reporter Delfin Vigil has put his money where his job is: he’s taken out a substantial ad on page 9 of yesterday’s Chronicle, suggesting that if the guys in suits won’t or can’t save the newspaper (and other struggling papers across the country) then they should hand it over to the reporters. (Navigate to page 9 using the box at the top of the screen from the link above.) “I believe that in my lifetime we will once again see newspaper journalism rise and thrive in our everyday lives. While nervous newspaper executives continue to do what they do best and wait for someone else to solve the problem for them, I believe that it it time now for newspaper people to begin saving our institution’s soul,” he writes in the ad.

Vigil’s passion is evident. I just wish he hadn’t use the mailmen on the Titanic in his lede…
