CTV Television Inc. has put Manitoba’s CKX-TV Brandon up for sale, and says it will shut the station down if it doesn’t find a buyer before the end of March.
The license expires at the end of August, and CTV announced it will not seek to renew. An agreement with CBC, in which CBC purchases airtime to carry its network programs and commercials, also expires Aug. 31 and CBC does not want to continue buying time.
CBC is not interested in buying the station either. According to CTV, the public broadcaster said “it cannot afford the long-term operating obligations and paying for the government ordered transition to digital.”
