The Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada has voted to merge with the Canadian Auto Workers, creating Canada’s largest private sector union.

According to the Canadian Press, the new union will represent more than 300,000 workers in around 20 sectors of the economy.

CEP locals represent employees at a number of working media organizations including Torstar, Globe and Mail, Quebecor, CTV, Rogers and Bell. The Canadian Freelance Union and the Media Union of BC are also CEP locals.

CEP’s vote follows a CAW vote on August 23, which was unanimous for its support of the merger.
