Freelance writers wishing to apply for the book or magazine award can submit their work from Monday, March 12, 2012 until Friday June 15, 2012 at 5 PM PST. The separate book and magazine awards recognize excellence of writing and research in the area of social justice writing and also provide support for independent freelance writers during the publishing process.
The Book Award for 2012 has been increased to $5,000. The Magazine Award for 2012 is set at $2,000.
