The number of foreign correspondents based in Canada has dwindled since the 1990s, and Maclean’s magazine’s Chris Selley discusses the trend of American news outlets pulling reporters out. Time Canada, the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times are among the heavy hitters that have eliminated Canadian bureaus in recent years, and now rely on stringers. Selley asks the same question Time Canada did in 2003: “Would anyone notice if Canada disappeared [?]” American media may be about to find out.
