<p><strong>By Mary Baxter</strong></p><p>A reporter with Vancouver-based <em>The Province</em> daily newspaper has earned one of the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation’s top awards.</p><p>At the Federation’s annual awards ceremony held Saturday, Glenda Lyumes earned the gold Dick Beamish press feature award for “A leader in her field,” a profile of Jill Hoeppner, a British Columbia dairy producer.</p>

READ MORE<p>The Forum Freelance Fund has awarded three Canadian journalists working in dangerous conditions bursaries for safety training.</p><p>The Forum Freelance Fund is sponsored by CBC News and supported by Radio-Canada, CNW and individual donations, and run by the Canadian Journalism Forum on Violence and Trauma. Two of the winners will attend a course at Columbia Journalism School, and one will attend a commercial safety course, according to a <a href="http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1222835/freelancers-in-danger-win-help-with-safety-training" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a>.</p>

He was a noted historian, political commentator and author who taught for almost 40 years at SFU.</p>

She will also work on a special project about Canada’s changing workforce, job market and economy.</p>

Last year, the fund awarded bursaries to freelancers based in Afghanistan, Tunisia, China and Colombia, all of whose works appeared in Canadian media.</p>
