When Vancouver’s unexpected power outage during Monday morning’s editorial meeting proved to be an extended problem, the news staff at the Vancouver Sun had to figure out ways to get the paper out without electricity. Laptops helped and eventually a rented generator arrived, but it was the Blackberry that really saved the day, according to this article the Sun published about the day’s events and the reasons for some absent content in the resulting edition.
The Sun also said it relied more heavily than usual on the Canwest News Service in faraway Ottawa for content and the Canwest Editorial Service in Hamilton for layout.
