While citizen journalism sites like NowPublic are gaining popularity and media attention, there are some hyper-local examples of the same kind of collaborative journalism. Northumberland View is a new community news and information portal for Northumberland County, Ontario, about one hour east of Toronto. Serving a mainly rural area, the website contains stories that are sent in from municipalities, local agencies, school boards, local health unit and include provincial and federal press releases. Eventually, it hopes to solicit news from citizens interested in writing about local events. These are put into sections including news, entertainment, homeview, lifeview and sport.
