Michelle Shephard, National Security reporter for the Toronto Star, continues to inspire fellow journalists with her courageous, meticulous and always fair-minded reporting on both terrorism and human rights issues. This year, she was honoured with a diamond jubilee medal (she was nominated by Gen Romeo Dallaire) (http://www.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx) and with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association award (http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2012/06/21/toronto_star_reporter_michelle_shephard_wins_canadian_civil_liberties_association_award.html). She is the author of the acclaimed Decade of Fear: Reporting From Terrorism's Grey Zone (Douglas & Mcintyre, 2011) and Guantanamo's Child: the untold story of Omar Khadr (Wiley 2008). Shephard is a past winner of the Michener Award for public service journalism and three-time winner of National Newspaper Awards.
