SUMMARY:Alberta at a Crossroads: National Perspectives on Separation and the Future of Confederation
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Monica Zurowski\, Editor-in-Chief of the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun\nDavid Skok\, Publisher and Founder of The Logic\nGary Mason\, National Affairs Columnist\, The Globe and Mail \nBill Lomax\, President & CEO of First Nations Bank of Canada \nIn conversation with: Deborah Yedlin\, President & CEO\, Calgary Chamber of Commerce[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text css=””]The Alberta separation issue has moved from the political margins into the mainstream of public debate. While a referendum may or may not materialize\, the conversation itself is shaping provincial politics\, influencing national unity discussions and raising real economic questions.  \nThe Canadian Journalism Foundation invited 80 leading national journalists\, policymakers and economic voices in Calgary to explore how the story is being covered and where coverage may be clarifying — or complicating — public understanding. Monica Zurowski of Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun\, David Skok of The Logic\, Gary Mason of The Globe and Mail and Bill Lomax of First Nations Bank of Canada tackled the hard questions: whether it is a credible political project or a protest movement\, how seriously it is being taken nationally\, how it is being framed by national media\, the ramifications of separation and the responsibilities of journalists in covering a movement with both emotional and material dimensions. Deborah Yedlin\, Calgary Chamber of Commerce’s president and CEO\, moderated the conversation. \n  \nThe evening opened with a reception bringing together presenters and attendees. \nThis CJF J-Talk event was made possible by our sponsor\, MobSquad. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text css=””] \nView highlights from the event \n[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”26266\,26268\,26258\,26264\,26256\,26260\,26262″ img_size=”large” speed=”4000″ autoplay=”yes” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]
