Honorary Tribute

Ted Koppel, former long-time ABC anchor and correspondent, will present the CJF Annual Honorary Tribute posthumously to Peter Jennings, Canadian-born anchor and senior editor of ABC's World News Tonight, to mark a storied career of journalistic excellence.

Greg Clark Award

RecognitionTamara Baluja, national reporter with The Globe and Mail with a special interest in education, is the winner of the CJF Greg Clark Award for early career journalists. Baluja will have the opportunity to spend up to a week visiting a First Nations school in a remote community in British Columbia where graduation rates and performance indicators show positive change is being made. Lifetime Achievement Award

RecognitionJack "Sig" Sigvaldason, publisher of Northern News Services, has been named the CJF Lifetime Achievement Award recipient."The fact that he created this feisty, profitable mini newspaper empire in the NWT and Nunavut serving 60,000 people in two languages (English and Inuktitut) over an area of 1.5 million square miles is a massive achievement and the centrepiece of a 50-year career, " says Valerie Pringle, jury member and long-time program host and television journalist at CBC and CTV.

J-Source Canadian Newsperson of the Year Award
DiscussionWilf Dinnick, co-founder and CEO of OpenFile, was named J-Source Canadian Newsperson of the Year for being an innovator in the field of journalism. The award honours an individual who has demonstrated excellence and made a positive impact on the quality of journalism in 2011.
