The Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy, worth up to $100,000, is sponsored by the Atkinson Charitable Foundation, the Toronto Star, and the family of Beland Honderich. The grant provides for a Canadian journalist to undertake a year-long research project on a topical public policy issue.
The Atkinson Fellowship has aided research into some of Canada's most important and often most complicated policy debates.
This year's recipient of the Atkinson Fellowship is Marie Wadden. Marie has received numerous awards for her work, including the Edna Staebler Award for creative non fiction for her book Nitassinan: the Innu Struggle to Reclaim their Homeland.
For her fellowship, she will build on the work she started in this book with a project entitled Tragedy or Triumph: Canadian Public Policy and Aboriginal Addictions.
